Cross Country Lettering System

 15 points are needed to letter.

 

1)            1st through 15th in major meet (15 – 14 – 13 – 12 – 11 – 10 – 9 – 8 – 7 – 6 – 5 – 4 – 3 – 2 – 1)

 

2)            1st through 10th in quadrangular meet (10 – 9 – 8 – 7 – 6 – 5 – 4 – 3 – 2 – 1)

 

3)            1st through 6th in dual or triangular meet (6 – 5 – 4 – 3 – 2 – 1)

 

4)            Top six Scotus varsity runners (2 – 1.5 – 1 – 0.5 – 0.5 – 0.5)

 

5)            Finish ahead of any opponent (0.5)

 

6)            JV runner beats a varsity runner (0.5)

 

7)            JV runner in top six of JV meet (determined by coach based on number of runners)

         Examples:      (3 – 2.5 – 2 – 1.5 – 1 – 0.5)

                              (1.5 – 1 – 0.5)

                              (0.5)

 

8)            Team Bonus Points (1st 4-6 runners at coach’s discretion)

 

         State Meet                                        (10 – 9 – 8 – 7 – 6 – 5 – 4 – 3 – 2 – 1)

         Major Meet (10 or more teams)        (5 – 4 – 3.5 – 3 – 2.5 – 2 – 1.5 – 1)

         Major Meet (less than 10 teams)        (5 – 3 – 2 – 1 – 0.5)

         JV meet (determined by coach by number of teams)

         Examples:      (3 – 2 – 1)

                              (1.5 – 1 – 0.5)

9)            An athlete may also letter as a result of the coach’s discretion.

 

10)        At any one meet, a JV runner may not earn more total points than any varsity runner unless the JV runner’s time is faster than the varsity runner’s time.  This means that the better the varsity performs, the more potential JV runners have for earning points.
