Clinton Forcefully
Disputes Disbarment Recommendation:

Sure I'm guilty of perjury, so what?

Attorney's for President Clinton acknowledged that he broke laws and disregarded the Arkansas Bar Code of Ethics, but argued that disbarment is too harsh.

"Sure, the President has committed a few felonies while in office, who hasn't?" Clinton's attorney's wrote in a five page response to complaints filed by the Arkansas Supreme Court. "If you went around disbarring every attorney who's committed a felony, we wouldn't have any lawyers left. It's a vast rightwing conspiracy to hold the president of the United States accountable for his actions. It's unprecedented."

The letter further stated that the president lied under oath only because he didn't want to tell the truth. "He committed perjury for the noblist of reasons, to spare himself embarrassment."

Matt Glavin, president of the Southeastern Legal Foundation of Atlanta, which recommended Clinton's disbarment, said after Tuesday's filing that the proposed sanctions were not too harsh. "In fact, they are precisely what the American Bar Association recommends based on this behavior,'' Glavin said. "Honesty and candor are absolute prerequisites in our bar,'' Glavin said. "The Supreme Court has made it clear what's required for membership in the Arkansas bar. Mr. Clinton doesn't meet those standards.''

Noteworthy attorneys have weighed in on the matter. Nursing a cocktail at the Miami Holiday Inn lounge, F. Lee Bailey said before he rushed to judgement he wanted to talk to President Clinton. "I want to ask him a few questions and get to the bottom of this, one on one, marine to marine." Bailey said. When he learned that the President wasn't a veteran of the marine corps, Bailey said he shoud be disbarred. "He's a sissy."

Johnny Cochran says it's not a matter of legality, but a matter of what Clinton has done for the black community. Speaking in his usual rhyming cadence, Cochran said, "It maybe true that the President lied, but he's a liberal, so let it slide."
